Classic Country Memories
Once upon a time, most people had three TV channels: ABC, CBS, and NBC. If you were lucky, you also had PBS. It was before HBO and Cinemax. It was... it was the 1970s!
Country music didn't have its own channel back then, but on Saturday afternoons in the Nashville viewing area, it was everywhere. By that I mean, on all three major network channels and even on PBS occasionally!
I grew up in a suburb of Nashville called Ridgetop. My grandmother loved any tune with a twang. At her house you could count on seeing Porter and Dolly and the Wilburn Brothers while she fried salmon patties. And no matter where you were Saturday evening at 6:00 pm, it was time for Heeeeeee Haw!
For many years we had to live without these old shows except in our memories. These days, country music lovers can see all these old shows and others every weekend on RFD-TV. I don't work for RFD. I am a loyal fan, though, and I like their current-day music shows too.
I have a really good memory and wonderful childhood memories to share of the 1970s and '80s in Tennessee. I love digging back in old history so much that I subscribe to Newspapers.com. While I don't work for them, I have applied for their affiliate program. So if, like me, you're a history and trivia buff, I would highly recommend you purchase a subscription of your own!
Because my local daily paper was the Nashville Tennessean (as well as the now-defunct evening paper, the Nashville Banner), when I look at what was happening in the world around me, I get a glimpse of what was going on in country music too. So no matter what you're here for, whether it's country music TV or just a stroll down Memory Lane, sit back and enjoy yourself!
